Juvian Rodriguez was arrested after allegedly verbally harassing and threatening to stab an undercover Asian New York Police Department (NYPD) officer, ABC7 reports.
According to the New York Post, while the police officer was patrolling in Midtown, Manhattan, Rodriguez allegedly approached him and said, “Go back to China before you end up in a graveyard. I’m gonna slap the holy piss out of you and stab you in the face.”
The plainclothes cop alerted a precinct cop, who then proceeded to arrest Rodriguez, who is now charged with “harassment as a hate crime, aggravated harassment based on race or religion, menacing as a hate crime, and criminal possession of a controlled substance,” according to ABC7.
This is the second time this week that an arrest has been made for anti-AAPI harassment against undercover officers, in the wake of an NYPD initiative to redeploy plainclothes cops to combat the surge in anti-AAPI crimes. Earlier this week, a woman was arrested for verbally assaulting various members of the AAPI community in a Manhattan salon, including an undercover officer.
