Sunday Sizzle: Fried rice the way you want it

Fried rice – 5 ingredients – 15 minutes.


I love my cheat day. Comfort food — Fried Rice. 5 ingredients — rice, eggs, onions, carrots, and peas — 15 minutes.


Have not been out. Trying to keep NYC safe. Being stuck at home, I am desperate for comfort food and cheat day. Fried Rice it is. 

Never listen to me, you can make shrimp, chicken, beef fried rice. The universe is yours. Make your fried rice with brown rice, wild rice, or purple rice.

Never had purple rice??? I tried my very first at Korea Town — 32nd and 6th Ave in New York. Try Woorijip (12, West 32nd St.)- buffet style, inexpensive place. Don’t forget to get kimchee there. The cooked purple rice is $1. Yup, $1 — NYC can be super cheap.

I love their spicy anchovies. My summer camp elementary students love their seaweed salad, bulgogi (marinated beef), bibimbap (Korean rice dish), and mackerel fish.  After that, go across the street and try more  Korean street food.


I love Korean BBQ. I don’t like grilling my own food. My clothes stink after those grillings. I usually asked for my food to be cooked in the restaurant kitchen. My family and friends usually give me those eyes 👀. I pay them no mind. I like my clothes smelling nice instead of smokin’ whatever. Of course, I am strange!!! No shame and unapologetic for being quirky.

The recipe:
1. Cook the rice per direction. (10 minutes)
2. Scramble the eggs with a touch of salt. You can add pepper or whatever your heart desires.
3. On a separate pan, caramelize  the onions till browned, add the carrots and peas + salt. (3 minutes). Add rice.
4. Add the scrambled eggs but save a little to put at the top when you are about to serve the fried rice. Season with Dr. Bragg Liquid aminos acid,(taste like soy sauce). I ran out 🙁 I just use salt.)


FYI — I boiled the baby carrots then cut them in tiny bits. Use frozen peas or fresh or canned peas.


No white rice? Use brown rice or black rice. No peas or carrots? Use other veggies. No eggs? — fried rice will be fine without it, make it vegan. Tired of eggs? Use ground beef, steaks, shrimp, chicken, bacon, ham, or pork, or all of them. Use your favorite food and mix it all together. Love to you all ❤❤❤ #vegetarian #eggs #friedrice
