A Lyft driver suffered a fracture nose after a man hit him in the face with a gun and robbed him of $1560 and his cell phone.
Fox11 reports a man got into the back seat of the vehicle stopped at a gas station in El Monte near Los Angeles to refuel.
The suspect can be seen in the surveillance video waving his gun at the driver, 67-year-old Paul Liao, from the backseat.
According to International Business Times, the suspect asked the driver to turn over his keys and to get out of the car. When the driver told him the vehicle was keyless and could only start with him in the vehicle, the suspect hit him across the face with his gun, according to the victim’s daughter-in-law, Christine Ting.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy is calling this a crime of opportunity and has not yet determined in the case is racially motivated. The suspect remains at large.
