Miss Singapore definitely got noticed with her choice of style Thursday night at the Miss Universe pageant in Miami.
Ph.Tatler reports she wore a national costume with the colors of the Singapore flag and the words “stop Asian hate.”
In an Instagram post, she wrote “the red of the flag represents universal fellowship, and white purity…our peaceful social fabric is built on respect for all races, languages and religions.”
“What is the platform for if I can’t use it to send a strong message of resistance against prejudice and violence?” Miss Singapore Bernadette Belle Ong, said, according to The Straits Times.
The audience cheered and clapped her costume when she revealed its message, Vice reported.
Miss Myanmar also used her platform to send a political message. Thuzar Wint Lwin walked down the runway with a banner that read “pray for Myanmar.”
