A 21-year-old woman has allegedly shot an Asian nail salon owner in Houston, Texas, because she was unhappy with the price of her manicure-pedicure, NBC News reports.
Police say Joana Vara and her 20-year-old sister were arguing about the price of a manicure-pedicure with the owner of Katy Nails on May 29. Vara left momentarily while her sister continued to argue and returned with a gun.
Vara allegedly shot the owner, a 42-year-old Asian man, with her handgun before fleeing the salon with her sister. Police arrested Vara Thursday charged her with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Officials say her sister bonded her out of jail, according to Click 2 Houston.
Emergency responders airlifted the owner to Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center. He is in critical but stable condition, NBC News reports.
Several of the owner’s customers are coming together to support him.
“They have become my family. They have seen my kids grow into adults and they just always take the time to go above and beyond,” Tamara Bryan told Click 2 Houston.
Bryan has set up a GoFundMe page for the owner. It has raised $1,470 so far.
