H.E.R. seemingly doesn’t do anything the traditional way.
She began her career by covering her face and concealing her identity. Her fanbase grew and so did her awards, winning 4 Grammys including the 2021 Song of the Year, I Can’t Breathe as well as an Oscar for Best Original Song, Fight for You.
It’s hard to believe that an artist with so much recognition had never released an album. That was true until this past Friday when she unveiled her debut studio LP, Back of My Mind.
The 21-track album includes appearances by y Dolla $ign, Lil Baby, Thundercat, Chris Brown, DJ Khaled, Yung Bleu, YG, Bryan Tiller, and Cordae, according to Vulture.
“It’s always things that I’ve been through, things that I go through or that I feel and all those thoughts that I think I’m afraid to say sometimes — or that we’re afraid to say — things that feel too honest or too vulnerable, or too emotional or too aggressive,” she said about her album to Rate R&B. “It’s all of those things that have been in the back of my mind for the past few years, since my first project. It’s like a peek into my soul.”
