The mother left in a coma after she and her son were pulled down NYC subway stairs has been taken off life support, New York Daily News reports. The family has decided to donate her organs.
Htwe Than was hospitalized after a robber tried to steal her son’s backpack on the stairwell at the Canal St. Q train station on July 17. The injuries she sustained were severe.
The family set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for medical expenses. On Monday, July 26, the family updated the page saying they were ending donations. They announced that they would take her off life support and donate her organs.
“An update on her condition, our mother/wife won’t make it out of this,” the family wrote. “So we have decided to donate her organs for those who are in need. I want to say thank you again to all the people who supported us through this very hard time.”
A relative of the family told the New York Daily News that the 58-year-old mother was taken off life support around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.
