Marvel released a new featurette to share some of the backstory for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings coming to theaters September 3, Labor Day Weekend.
The story goes back to Iron Man who’s forced to build these weapons for an organization known as the Ten Rings.
Actor Simu Liu actually tweeted Marvel Studio about the role in a tongue and cheek way back in 2018. Little did he know, his bold move would pay off.
“Shang-Chi was made for Simu. I can feel his passion for it,” said Awkwafina who co-stars in the movie.
According to producer Kevin Feige, Shang discovers his father was this evil overlord and that the rings gave him power.
As Liu points out, Shang-Chi must come face to face with his father, and as he puts it, “crazy stuff happens after that.”
“Time to take your place by my side,” his father tells his son.
Director Daniel Cretton confesses his “Heart was in this project. It’s a crazy wild ride we’re going to go on.”
The film also stars Tony Leung as Wenwu, Awkwafina plays Shang-Chi’s friend Katy and Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, as well as Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng.
