A family who had been reported missing was found dead on Tuesday in Mariposa County, FOX 26 reports.
Ellen Chung, Jonathan Gerrish, their 1-year-old daughter and the family dog were last seen on Sunday when they uploaded a picture of a baby backpack they were taking with them on a hike.
Rosanna Heaslett told FOX 26 that Chung and Gerrish did not attend work on Monday. The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office says a family friend reported them missing on Monday around 11 p.m., ABC 30 reports.
Search and Rescue crews found the family car near the Sierra National Forest gate leading to Hites Cove. Deputies found the bodies of Chung, Gerrish, their daughter and the dog near the Devil’s Gulch area in the Southfork of the Merced River drainage, ABC 30 reports.
The cause of death is unknown at this time.
