Times Up CEO Tina Tchen facing political firestorm

Activist Tina Tchen is taking to Twitter to fend off mounting criticism of the Times Up, the non-profit she leads which aims to end sexual harassment in the workplace.

Tchen, who once served as chief of staff of Michelle Obama, pledged to hire an outside consultant and to rebuild trust after some have questioned Times up role in the sexual harassment scandal involving New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The chairman of Times Up, Roberta Kaplan, recently resigned after it came to light she advised Cuomo on the scandal prior to his resignation.

This weekend, the New York Times published an investigation into Times Up about conflicts of interest in the organization.

“We’re committed to rebuilding trust and leading responsibly in ways that honor and center the very people we want to serve,” Tchen said in a statement.

Tchen has been a lawyer specializing on workplace culture, gender inequity, sexual harassment, and diversity.

While working in the Obama administration, she also lead the White House Council on Women and Girls and to support working families.
