Authorities are awaiting a toxicology report and the results of water sample tests in their investigation of the deaths of a family of four, reports the Fresno Bee.
Search and rescuers found of Ellen Chung, Jonathan Gerrish, their one-year-old daughter Aurelia Miju Chung-Gerrish and their dog dead on a hiking trail in Mariposa County near Yosemite over a week ago.
Authorities have ruled out poisonous gases from an abandoned mine and weapons as the cause of death.
Water samples have been sent to California State Water Resources Board Board and independent labs for testing. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the California Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Health Hazard Assessment are also assisting.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports the family had hiked most of the eight mile trail in temperatures more than 103 degrees. They were found about 1.5 miles from where they parked their car.
Authorities are also searching their phones for clues in their mysterious death.
Detective have concluded the family did not die by a “gun or other type of weapon” or from “chemical hazards along the Savage Lundy trail,” according to Action News 30.
“All other potential causes of death remain,” they say.
