New York police have made an arrest in the deadly knifing of Grubhub delivery man Sala Miah, reports AMNY.
Sources tell the paper the arrested suspect has been identified as Joseph Sandoval, 23. Those same sources say police picked him up earlier in the week, but did not formally make an arrest until Friday after DNA samples confirmed blood on his clothing matched the victim.
ABC7 News reports a vigil for Sala will be held Saturday evening, October 23.
The murder occurred on October 16. Miah had finished his shift and decided to rest on a park bench. A man sat near him and then attempted to steal Miah’s electric bicycle.
A scuffle broke out with Miah left bleeding helpless in the park. He later died in the hospital.
According to the Post, Miah’s brother-in-law said sent money back to his 19-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son who both remained in Bangladesh.
He says Miah left Bangladesh fearing for his life due to his political views.
“Now he lost his life here,” said Muhammad Ahsan.
