Sustainable clothing brand co-founded by Asian Americans

Always wanted to wear clothing that was fashionable and good for the environment? Co-founders Abi Lierheimer and Ophelia Chen launched Bobblehaus (@bobblehaus), a sustainable fashion brand that uses deadstock and recycled fabrics to create colorful genderless, clothing.

Sustainability has always been at the heart of Bobblehaus’ mission. In an interview with Yahoo’s In the Know, Chen shared that she was looking for a designer who specialized in sustainable products. Lierheimer and Chen eventually met through mutual friends and the rest is history.

Together, Lierheimer and Chen launched the sustainable fashion start-up that would become Bobblehaus. They decided to make clothing that was not only environmentally friendly, but was also fashion-forward, colorful, and genderless.

“We dress how we want to feel that day. That’s kind of like our philosophy behind the merchandising,” Chen explained.

Bobblehaus clothing is iconic for its colorful and loose, flowing silhouettes. Many of the brand’s clothing items are made of a silky fabric called TENCEL, which is not only ideal for creating loose-fitting clothing, but is also made from reused material such as wood chips.

Other articles of clothing have a more personal significance for Lierheimer and Chen. “We designed the very infamous ramen print during quarantine,” Lierheimer shared. “[We were] eating lots of ramen, and also us being Asian Americans, so it holds a deeper meaning for us.”

As Bobblehaus grows as a brand, the duo are determined to keep sustainability at the forefront of everything they do.

“For us, we believe that we give what we take,” Chen told In The Know. “So for any item purchased on our website, we donate to plant 10 trees around the world with One Tree Planted, and so far we have planted over 7,000 trees around the world. And we will continue with that initiative in the future as well.”
