Police are searching for a woman who yelled anti-Asian slurs at a teenage girl after attacking her outside a store in Brooklyn, CBS New York reports.
The attack occurred near Brighton Beach Avenue near Ocean Parkway around 10 a.m. on Friday, PIX 11 reports. The suspect struck a 17-year-old girl with a cardboard box and yelled anti-Asian slurs.
The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations released a statement on Monday, condemning the attack.
“CAIR-NY strongly condemns anti-Asian hate, and such bigotry is completely unacceptable,” CAIR-NY Legal Director Ahmed Mohamed said. “We are shocked to see an adult attacking a child. The Muslim community continues to support our Asian American community. Community members are urged to call Crime Stoppers with any tips about the suspect.”
The NYPD is investigating the attack as a possible hate crime. Anyone with information about the suspect should call NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-8477.
