Missing Lauren Cho identified from remains in the desert

CATEGORIES

Authorities in California say they’ve positively identified the remains of Lauren Cho as those found in the Yucca Valley Desert earlier this month, reports Fox11.

Remained unanswered is the cause of her death. The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department is still awaiting the results of a toxicology report.

The 30-year-old New Jersey woman had been with her boyfriend when she walked away from the Airbnb they were staying at. Her former boyfriend described her as being upset and under “mental distress” when he reported her missing on June 28, CNN reported.

Cho had left all her personal belongings behind.

Her case took on a higher profile as some complained the disappearance of Gabbie Petito, a White woman, received a disproportionate share of media coverage, especially when compared to the disappearance of people of color.

Search and rescue crews found the remains in what they described as rugged terrain three months after her disappearance, but those remains were not identified until today, the Desert Sun reported.

Rescuers had searched for Cho in the high desert for months without success. Similar searches were also called in September.
