Squid Game Costumes banned in some NY schools

Several New York schools are saying no to costumes from Squid Games due to the show’s association with violence, reports CBS News.

In the show, adults from low income families play deadly children games for cash prizes.

Principals from three elementary schools say they witnessed kids kicking and hitting each other as they acted out scenes from the show, reported NBC4. As a result, Squid Game costumes are banned in the Fayetteville-Manlius School District in Onondaga County.

“[The principals] also wanted families to be aware that some of our younger students are talking about and mimicking aspects of the show/game at school so parents and guardians would have the opportunity to speak with their children themselves about it and reinforce the school message that games associated with violent behavior are not appropriate for recess,” School Superintendent Dr. Craig Tice said.

According to the BBC, some parents are not happy with the decision.

“It’s a costume. Just don’t let your kids watch the show,” she said.

“Overbearing,” said another parent.
