New unredacted video released shows a teen shot and killed by police in Pennsylvania had his hands up when shot, reports NBC News.
The revelation immediately sparked renewed calls for an independent investigation. NBC in partnership with Spotlight PA obtained the video from the teen’s parents who received it after the family’s attorney obtained a subpoena.
On December 30 of last year, 19-year-old Christian Hall stood on the edge of a freeway in Monroe County with a BB gun, but what authorities thought was real. His family described him as going through a mental health crisis.
Video previously released blurred the final moments before officers killed Hall.
Family attorney Ben Crump told USA Today he worked a year to get that video.
“When we have to push so hard, it begs the question: ‘what is there to hide.'” “In this case, we now know the terrible answer.”
The Monroe County DA had previously found the shooting justified and the Assistant DA called it a “classic suicide by cop scenario.”
“I would like to see an unbiased investigation take place,” said Hall’s father, Gareth Hall to NBC. “I personally would like to see those police officers brought up on charges.”
The teen’s mother, Fe, is Filipino who adopted the boy from China.
