BTS took away the big prize at the American Music Awards-Artist of the Year Sunday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
It also walked away with the two other awards it was up for, Favorite Pop Duo or Group and Favorite Pop Song for Butter.
“Four years ago, we gave this first-time-ever TV live performance at this stage, AMAs, it was DNA. We were too excited and nervous at the time, and it’s been a long and amazing ride since then,” said the boy group’s leader RMS. “This whole thing is a miracle. We’ll never take this for granted,” he concluded.
BTS is the first Asian act to ever win this award.
“We just wanted to make people happy with our music,” Jungkook said. “In the past few years, we learned that every moment is precious.”
The group also performed My Universe with Cold Play.
18-year-old Olivia Rodrigo entered the evening with the most nominations, 7, and won New Artist of the Year.
“Oh, my God. This is so cool. Writing songs is my favorite thing in the whole world and I’m so grateful for everyone who’s embraced my music,” she said.
Rodrigo also performed Traitor live on stage.
The Favorite R&B Song went to the group Silk Sonic made up of super duo Bruno Mars and Anderson.Paak.
They opened the show with a performance of Smokin Out the Window.
