Police in Oakland announced the arrest Wednesday of two suspects in the murder of security guard and former police officer Kevin Nishita.
The East Bay Times reports authorities arrested one suspect in Sunnyvale near San Jose on Monday and arrested a second suspect Tuesday in San Francisco.
Both were arrested on separate charges and have not yet been formally charged with Nishita’s death.
A third suspect is still being sought.
“We feel strongly that we’ve identified a third suspect as well that we are seeking right now with the help of our law enforcement partners,” said Oakland Police Chief Leronne Armstrong to ABC7 News.
Nishita died one month ago while protecting a television news crew during their assignment. Media began hiring security after numerous incidents over the last few years in the Bay Area where they have been targeted for their expensive camera equipment.
The names of the suspects have not been released pending formal charges, but KTVU quotes sources who say the second suspect has been identified as Laron Gilbert, 26. He had been held on $100,000 bail in Santa Rita jail, but by Wednesday was not in custody.
Gilbert is said to be the registered owner of the White Acura that police identified as being at the murder scene.
Armstrong credited information from the community for leading them to the suspects.
