A man who had just been released on parole is accused of raping an Asian woman at a New York City construction site.
NBC4 reports Darryl Phelps served 21 years behind bars for attempted rape and burglary.
Police say they responded to a 911 call at 241 West 28th Street and pulled Phelps off a 23-year-old Asian restaurant worker, according to the New York Post.
“I want you to have my baby,” he allegedly said to the victim, according to sources who talked to the Post.
ABC7 reports the victim would later be treated for punches to the face and bruising to her eye.
“She’s not OK mentally after that,” a police source said.
Phelps faces charges of rape, criminal sex act, sex abuse, and assault.
“This was a savage and brutal attack of an innocent woman on her way home from work,“ said a Manhattan cop. “He is a sexual deviant who should not have been released under any circumstances.”
Phelps has been out on parole since September after serving time for a 1997 rape and burglary of a 33-year-old woman. That incident happened on the same day authorities released him on parole for a 1987 burglary conviction.
