New York police says an adult male assaulted a South Korean diplomat in New York Wednesday without provocation.
The Hill reports the man punched the victim in the face near West 35th Street and 5th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.
The 52-year old victim suffered swelling and pain to the face, according to ABC News.
The suspect escaped on foot down Sixth Avenue. An ambulance took the victim to NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn where they listed him in stable condition.
“The unprovoked attack against the South Korean diplomat is horrific and absolutely unacceptable,” New York City Council member Keith Powers, who represents the area where the attack occurred, said to NBC News.
The South Korean Consulate has not responded so far to requests for comment.
The incident is not yet being investigated as a hate crime.
