Madison Chock and Evan Bates skated the Olympic performance of their careers, but it fell just short of a medal Sunday night.
The pair skated with elegance and grace, with NBC commentators Johnny Weir and Tanith White commending Chock for the emotion her facial expressions and body language displayed during their performance.
However, they were unable to move up in the standings after the rhythm dance, remaining in fourth place behind fellow Americans Madison Hubbell and Zach Donahue.
For the bronze medalists, it was their final Olympic performance and their first individual medals.
Both American pairs won a silver medal in the team competition last week.
Hubbell and Donahue finished behind the favorite and gold medalists Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron of France and Viktoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov of the Russian Olympic Committee.
Chock and Bates had won the US Championships going into the Olympics and also lead Team USA in the team competition to a silver medal.
