When you’ve won an all-around gold medal at the Olympics, what else is there left to do? How about making history?
Sunisa Lee did just that-leading her Auburn Tigers Friday to the team’s highest score ever after performing the Nabieva on bars. That’s a move that’s never been done before in college gymnastics-one which requires her to stretch her body vertically over the high bar, then swing around before passing over the bar backward and grabbing it again, reported Yahoo Sports.
“I get to look back at it and go, Oh, I made history, or I did that. I think it’s cool,” said Lee.
The first-year student matched her performance on the bar with a perfect 10 across the board on the beam.
“I feel like when I go out there, I want people to not know what I’m going to do. It just makes it a lot more exciting and it makes it so much fun to me. because then the other elite gymnasts that are going to college, they can do that too,” she said.
Lee admits the long season is wearing on her entire team, but the joy of celebrating with her teammates will be a lifelong memory.
“It’s so surreal. It really does feel like a family. The way we all celebrated together., everyone was just so happy. It’s not something I ever experienced in my life. If I could relive that, I would,” she said.
