Police on Monday announced the arrest of Luong Tammy Huynh in the abduction of a 2-year-old boy in Sunnyvale, south of San Francisco.
CBS5 reports they took the woman into custody about 8:30 Sunday night as she returned home in San Jose.
She faces kidnapping, child endangerment, and vehicle theft charges.
Jacob’s mother Melissa Jardine told ABC7 that she took groceries out of the car and into her hotel room, but left Jacob in the vehicle because he was sleeping.
Someone stole her SUV shortly after with Jacob still in the backseat. The California Highway Patrol promptly issued an AMBER alert.
“He’s a baby, he’s little, and I know he’s scared, and I know he’s hungry and I just want this son back so this whole nightmare can be over,” said Melissa Jardine prior to him being found.
Police had earlier asked for the public’s help in finding Huynh, saying they had reason to believe she could lead them to Jacob.
They say surveillance video implicated her in the kidnapping.
Family members who had traveled for hours to the Bay Area when they heard Jacob had been kidnapped expressed relief.
Jacob had been missing for nearly 14 hours before being found.
“Super excited that he was found, can’t wait to give him a hug and make sure that he was okay. It’s been the worst couple of hours ever,” said Jacob’s aunt Migdalia Torres to ABC7.
