Police arrested three teenagers including a 17-year-old in the murder of a 71-year-old Lyft driver in Prince George County, MD, reports WUSA9.
Police responded to reports of gunfire and found Abdul Rauf Khan, 71, of Springfield, VA shot on the roadway.
The 17 year old faces first-degree murder charges. A second 17 year old along with a 19 year old also were arrested.
“I don’t know what to do, because he was the pillar of our life, and now … my life is over,” Khan’s wife Saba Rauf said, according to NBC Washington. “When I told [my daughter] that I’m coming here, she said, ‘Just ask one question: Did my dad call my name when the guy shot him?'”
Police say the 17-year-old teen charged with murder confessed to killing him during a carjacking.
Police Chief Malik Aziz called the act “senseless.”
WUSA says Khan is known as a hero to police having saved an officer’s life who was attacked by a knife-wielding man.
He immigrated from Pakistan and spent decades as a restaurant owner.
“They think it’s just somebody that they can kill and he was nobody,” his nephew Agha Raza Ali said. “He was somebody.”
