A robber shot a cryptocurrency tycoon from Hong Kong who is married to an Australian model several times in the leg Friday in a possible attempted robbery in New York.
The Post reports the thief attempted to steal the luxury Richard Mille watch of Pierrick Jamaux as he, his friends and wife, Australian model Sarah Watts, got out of an Uber from a visit to the Sapphire 39 strip club.
The New York Daily News reports that Jamaux is in stable condition at a New York hospital.
The suspect went through the victim’s pockets before running off as Watts tried to intervene. A police source told the Daily News it wasn’t clear if the robber knew Jamaux was wearing the watch, although the Post reports he has flaunted the watch on Instagram.
He owns the online banking platform Hi, which describes itself as the “next-gen crypto exchange and mobile banking app, for savings, investments and payments.”
The Daily Mail reports that a recent poll found 75 percent of New Yorkers consider crime there a serious problem. Robberies are up 43.5% over the same time last year. Assaults are up 17 percent.
