A suspect remains at large in the beating of a 70-year-old Sikh man visiting New York from India.
Dozens rallied Sunday in support of the victim, Nirmal Singh, reports ABC7.
The attack has been described as unprovoked by the New York Police Department.
It left Singh with a broken nose and significant bruising.
“An attack on him is like an attack on my own family,” the first South Asian American woman elected to New York state office, Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar, said to PIX11.
Singh believes the culprit attacked him because he wore a turban.
“Singh’s experience is another example of how innocents are target of hatred,” United Sikhs said to NBC New York.
Police say last week’s incident is being investigated as a possible bias attack.
