The widow of slain deliveryman Zhiwen Yan attended a candlelight vigil Wednesday night to honor her husband and call for justice.
The New York Post reports Kunying Zhao expressed regret that her husband had expressed concerns for his safety but police did not take him seriously.
“I want to know why since last November his boss and colleagues have been threatened multiple times and nobody could protect them. I want to know why! New York City, you owe me a life … you owe me a husband … you owe an explanation to the Chinese community,” Zhao said through an interpreter.
As AsAmNews reported earlier this month, the 45-year-old Yan had been on a scooter making a delivery when a shooter fired several times, fatally striking the deliveryman.
“This was such a horrible and senseless tragedy, and we are confident that the person responsible will be apprehended and brought to justice,” Rep Grace Meng and City Council Member Lynn Schulman. said in a joint statement, reported Patch. “Zhiwen Yan was well known and beloved by many in the community, and our hearts continue to ache for his family.”
A Go Fund Me campaign has raised nearly $200,000 for the family.
