Police in Beaverton, OR announced Friday a 16 year old has been charged in the murder of Milana Li.
As AsAmNews reported, Li went missing May 9 and authorities declared her death officially a homicide two days later.
KPTV reports that Daniel Ryan Gore now faces a charge of murder of the first degree.
According to The Oregonian, Li’s parents and grandmother sat in the back of the courtroom during Gore’s court appearance.
“I feel that my family will be not safe if he will be out and I feel that it’s dangerous for him to be outside, inside the community,” said Li’s mother, Assel Li. “And I have a small kid, another girl. She’s 5. That’s all.”
The judge declared that Gore will remain in custody until his next appearance on June 3. He also announced that the prosecution has requested that he be tried as an adult.
Deputy District Attorney Dustin Staten said Gore has a criminal record dating back to 2020 when he tried to set a movie theater on fire with another juvenile. He’s also accused of violating his parole when he allegedly stole a man’s sports coat.
“The murder of Milana Li is deeply distressing for her family, friends and the entire community,” the Washington County Juvenile Department said to KGW. “Our hearts go out to Milana’s loved ones and everyone affected by her death.”
