The Asian man beaten at a New York City subway station says allegations claiming he groped a girl are false.
Over the weekend, a video of an Asian man being restrained and beaten by civilians at the Fulton Street Station in Lower Manhattan went viral.
According to MEAWW, one person can be heard in the video saying, “You touching girls, you touching girls — little sisters and all that, moms and everything. You filthy, son. I got a daughter. If the cops lock me up, I’m paying my own bail.”
The 42-year-old man is now speaking out in a Daily Mail article in an attempt to clear his name. He says he fell asleep on the train and awoke to a few men beating him.
“I’m the victim here!” the Asian man told the Daily Mail in an interview on Tuesday. “I fell asleep on the train, and I woke up to a bunch of guys grabbing me and assaulting me.”
The man does have a criminal record but an NYPD source told the Daily Mail he has never been arrested for a sex crime. He is adamant that, as a father to a daughter himself, he has never sexually assaulted anyone.
“You know, I’ve been arrested numerous amounts of times for assault, disorderly conduct, drinking in public, but never, ever, ever for forcibly touching a woman,” the man told the Daily Mail. “I have never, ever forcibly touched any type of female or person or individual in my life.”
He questioned the existence of his alleged victim.
“I mean, what kind of man would do that? And if I did do that, where are the victims, the people I supposedly assaulted? Wouldn’t they be in that video too?” he said to the Daily Mail.
Police say that as of Tuesday they have not received reports of sexual assault.
