Early reports are coming in that the viewership coming in for Ms. Marvel is lower than any other Marvel Disney+ series.
According to Samba TV, 775,000 US households watched the premiere of the show during the first five days. However, it drew a more diverse audience with Black, Hispanic and Asian households tuning in at a higher rate.
According to Forbes, compared to Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye had 1.5 million and Moon Knight had 1.8 million views during their first five days after premiering.
Forbes said that there could be a few reasons why the viewership for the new series is low. One could be that Ms. Marvel is a brand new hero and is more low profile compared to other MCU characters such as Wanda from WandaVision and or Bucky and Sam from The Falcon and the Winter Solider.
Another would be that the lead actress, Iman Vellani is completely unknown and is essentially making her debut. Forbes also added that the show is aimed at a younger audience compared to other Marvel shows.
Ms. Marvel is about a superhero fan named Kamala Khan who loves Captain Marvel. She does not fit in at school and has a bright imagination. However, she gains newfound powers that are similar to Captain Marvel’s.
Ms. Marvel is the franchise’s first Muslim superhero to be the lead in a comic book.
