The man known as the “Duck Sauce Killer” who had been scheduled to appear in court today died in an apparent suicide, the Daily Mail reported.
Authorities said Glenn Hirsch, 51, killed Chinese food deliveryman Zhiwen Yan in Queens after being upset he didn’t get enough duck sauce.
“The officers went to Mr. Hirsch’s apartment this morning and found him deceased, apparently through a gunshot wound – self-inflicted,” his attorney, Michael Horn, said in a statement Friday.
‘It seems to be suicide, there was a note in which he expressed that he wasn’t guilty, that the process was not treating him fairly.
But that is obviously the thoughts of a person who was anxious, depressed, and refused to seek counseling.”
The Daily News reports a judge asked deputies to check on him at his apartment when he did not show up in court.
“I really didn’t see this coming,” Arthur Aidala, Hirsch’s new attorney said. “Today was supposed to be a routine court appearance…It was not big deal. He knew that.”
Hirsch had been out of jail on $500,000 bail.
He is known as a hoarder. Police found a refrigerator filled with duck sauce.
A pro-bono attorney for Zhiwen’s family told the New York Post they are in shock.
“Zhiwen Yan’s family is in shock. We ask for privacy, and thank the NYPD and District Attorney for their efforts to seek justice,” Jennifer Wu said.
