Rescue crews Tuesday found the body of a 29-year-old hiker swept away by flood waters late last week.
Times Now News reports rescuers pulled Jetal Aghihotri from the Virgin River in Zion National Park.
“Our deepest sympathy goes out to the friends and family of Jetal Agnihotri,” park superintendent Jeff Bradybaugh said in a statement to NDTV.
Aghihotri attended the University of Arizona to pursue a doctorate in hydrology and atmospheric sciences. Her brother confirmed the news saying simply “She is gone”.
Her body was recovered 10 miles from where she was last seen.
Crews rescued other hikers who managed to escape to higher ground.
Zion National Park is a popular tourist destination that unfortunately is prone to flash flooding. The narrow canyons highlights visitors trip to the park, but it also can be dangerous for hikers as flash floods can occur without warning.
They began the search for Ahgihotri on Friday. They say she had gotten separated from her group.
