Pixar confirmed plans for a sequel to the animated film Inside Out at its D23 showcase. There are rumors that Mindy Kaling, who was a voice actor in the first movie, will not return for the sequel.
Inside Out followed a young girl named Riley as she struggles to fit in after moving to a new town. Much of the film takes place inside Riley’s head where her emotions are represented by different characters. The emotions take turns trying to help Riley through different situations. Kaling voiced Disgust.
The new movie will follow Riley through her teenage years. According to Vulture, it is unlikely that she will reprise her role. A writer from Puck named Matthew Belloni said that Kaling and Bill Hader, who played Fear, will not be returning because they were offered just 2 percent of Amy Poehler’s salary for the sequel. Poehler voices “Joy.”
Parade reports that Poehler was offered $5 million for her voice services while the cast received offers of only $100k (and zero bonuses).
Neither Kaling or Hader have commented on the rumors.
