Michelle Yeoh will join the cast of Jon M. Chu’s “Wicked” movies, Variety reports. The experienced actress will play the role of Madame Morrible, the headmistress of Crage Hall at Shiz University.
“Wicked” is the musical prequel to “The Wizard of Oz.” It explains how Elphaba became the Wicked Witch of the West.
Chu has turned the Broadway musical into a two-part movie special. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first part will be released on Dec. 25, 2024, with the second released the following Christmas.
Ariana Grande will play Glinda and Cynthia Erivo will play Elphaba in Chu’s adaptation. The Crazy Rich Asians director tweeted about Yeoh’s addition to the cast, saying he was the “luckiest director in the world” to get to work with her again.
A Wicked Movie Updates account shared a clip of an interview with Yeoh where she says it is her dream “to do a musical.”
