Prosecutors in Alameda County near San Francisco today announced the arrest of three gang suspects in the murder of 23-month-old Jasper Wu, reports ABC7 News.
Authorities say Wu was hit in the crossfire during a gang-related freeway shooting in Oakland on November 6 of last year.
According to SFist, Jasper was asleep when the bullet went through the windshield of the family’s car and hit him.
“Two rival gangs were having a rolling gun battle on Highway 880, going northbound, across the freeway,” said Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley said.
Authorities say three suspects have been arrested and four have been identified.
The fourth died in another drive by shooting last month.
She said Trevor Green and Ivory Bivin are members of the Chopper City criminal street gang in San Francisco. Johnny Jackson and Keesan Lee are members of the Eddy Rock gang, also in San Francisco. She identified Lee as the one that died last month.
“This is the worst nightmare, an outcome of gun violence and especially gang gun violence, that innocent people are quite literally caught in the crossfire. But the horrific nightmare for the Wu family and their baby being killed in such a senseless and violent manner can never be reconciled,” said O’Malley, reported Fox2.
In 2021 alone, the Bay Area saw 144 freeway shootings. Authorities made arrests in just 11% of those cases.
