An Indian American entrepreneur has died after a fire broke out at her cottage home in Long Island, New York.
According to The Tribune India, 32-year-old Tanya Bathija was at her home in Dix Hills when a fire broke out around 2:53 am on December 14. Police officers attempted to rescue Bathija but the flames were too strong. She and her dog died before firefighters could put out the blaze.
The cottage was located behind Bathija’s family home. NDTV reports that Bathija’s father saw the fire while preparing to go for his morning exercise. He called authorities immediately.
“Mr Bathija alerted his wife at the same time as he called 911. They ran outside to the cottage and tried to get her out but it was fully engulfed,” the department said, according to The Tribune India.
Bathija had recently earned her MBA in accounting and finance and opened a Dunkin Donuts in Tanya Bathija. Funeral services were held on Sunday at Maloney’s Lake Funeral Home in Lake Ronkonkoma.
