Averie Bishop, the first Asian American Miss Texas, was named second-runner-up at the Miss America 2023 competition on Thursday.
Bishop became the first Asian American to win Miss Texas in June. She is a Filipino American lawyer from Carrollton, Texas. According to CW 33, she is also on Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson’s 16-person Anti-Hate Advisory Council
Miss Wisconsin Grace Stanke was crowned Miss America 2023 on Thursday night. According to Parade, Miss New York Taryn Delanie Smith was first-runner-up and Bishop was second-runner-up.
Bishop will receive a $20,000 scholarship. She posted about the competition on Instagram and congratulated Stanke.
“Your new Miss America, Grace from Wisconsin!! A nuclear engineer and a beast on violin. So happy to have been your dressing room neighbor. She’s an advocate for clean energy. Good luck on all of your endeavors!” Bishop wrote.
