Justin Lin is set to direct The Last Days of John Allen Chau, an indie film about a man who journeys to North Sentinel Island.
According to Deadline, Ben Ripley will write the script for the film, which is set to begin production this spring. Sources have told Deadline that the film will likely be a return to Lin’s indie roots. Over the years the director has become known for his work on major blockbuster films like Fast & Furious.
The Last Days of John Allen Chau is based on an Outside Magazine article by Alex Perry, Indie Wire reports. According to the article, Chau was a 26-year-old missionary who traveled to North Sentinel Island in the Indian Ocean, believing he was meant to convert uncontacted tribes on the island to Christianity. Chau was later killed by people living on the island.
Lin has not acknowledged reports that he will direct the film. He is also rumored to be in talks to direct One Punch Man for Sony, Deadline reports.
