The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA) will hold a regional convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the first time ever, Hawai’i Public Radio reports.
Every year, the CNHA holds an annual convention in Oahu. This year, an inaugural Western Regional Native Hawaiian Convention will also be held in June at Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino.
Over the past few years, Native Hawaiians have been forced to leave their homeland because of the rising cost of living in Hawaii. Many have moved to Las Vegas, where homes are more affordable. According to Hawaii News Now, statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau show that Las Vegas continues to see the biggest increase in its Native Hawaiian population.
CNHA wants to reconnect with Native Hawaiians that have moved away. This year’s convention will discuss cultural perpetuation, housing and tourism.
“This has been an ongoing conversation about how do we keep our families, our ʻohana, our cultural connection to one another — how do we keep that alive?” Kūhiō Lewis, CEO of CNHA, told Hawai’i Public Radio.

The reason why Native Hawaiians are moving out is because of the United States illegal occupation. Native Hawaiians claim back your island nation.
