John Wick: Chapter 4 is making big waves at the box office, heading towards a franchise-best opening weekend.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie earned $29.4 million from 3,855 theaters on Friday, with $8.9 million in Thursday previews. The fourth installment is now on track to break records for the franchise with a $70 million-plus opening weekend.
John Wick: Chapter 4 could bring in the most revenue out of all four films, but it was certainly expensive to produce. Variety reports that the filmmakers spent more than $100 million on production.
The critical response to the movie has mirrored the enthusiasm at the box office. John Wick: Chapter 4 currently has 95% certified fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
“The purity is admirable. The excitement is notable. Chapter 4 may run nearly three hours, but when we’re having this much fun calling out “Oof!” and “Get him!” the evening passes in breezy delight,” Kyle Smith wrote in his review for The Wallstreet Journal.
