The husband of a woman killed in a parasailing accident is suing the boat captain he believes is responsible.
According to Indian Express, Srinivasrao Alaparthi, his wife Supraja, their son and nephew were parasailing on May 30, 2022, while on vacation in the Florida Keys. After the weather took a turn for the worse, the boat captain allegedly cut the towline connecting the parasail to the boat. Supraja and the two boys dropped into the water.
The 33-year-old Supraja was killed and the two boys were injured.
According to ABC 7, the boat’s captain Daniel Couch was charged with manslaughter last September and has pleaded not guilty. Alaparthi has filed a suit against Couch, his colleague, the boat company and the marina.
The suit claims that the boat company failed to check the weather, provide enough safety equipment and bring down the parasail safely after the weather shifted.
“There were so many opportunities for them to stop this from happening but yet, there’s failure, after failure, after failure,” said Pedro Echarte, an attorney for Alaparthi and his family, according to ABC 7.
The boat company, the marina, and Couch could not be reached by ABC 7 for comment.
