Steven Phan tragically drowned earlier this month while snorkeling on his honeymoon in O’ahu, Hawaii. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support his wife.

Phan and his wife Brittany Myers Phan were married on March 20, KTLA 5 reports. The 49-year-old man was from San Jose, California, and worked for Apple in Cupertino.

The couple was snorkeling at Electric Beach in Nānākuli on June 1 when things took a turn for the worse, ABC 7 reports. Emergency services responded to a call they received around 10:27 a.m. Phan was transported to the hospital with Honolulu Emergency Medical Services confirming that he died shortly after.

According to the GoFundMe page, the couple also had their property stolen while they were snorkeling. The thieves took their cell phones, wallets, money, clothing and rental car.

Electric Beach is a popular spot for snorkeling but there is currently no lifeguard KTLA 5 reports. City Councilmember Andrea Tupola said a lifeguard will be added in September.

Funeral services for Phan will be held on June 13. The GoFundMe page will help cover the cost of funeral expenses and help support Brittany in the coming months. It has raised over $30,000 so far.
