Asian American organization speaks out a year after Dobbs decision

Asian Americans spoke out in the anniversary of the Dobbs decision, which removed federal protections for abortion access.

A year ago on June 24, the U.S. Supreme Court released its Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling. The decision overturned Roe v. Wade (1973) and Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992), cases that ruled that the constitution generally protected an individual’s right to an abortion.

The Dobbs decision now allows states to regulate any element of abortion access that is not covered by federal law. On its one year anniversary, Asian Americans are reminding people of the decision’s impact.

Rep. Paramila Japayal (D-WA) spoke with MSNBC’s Alicia Menendez about Dobbs.

“The consequences are severe,” she said in the interview.

The National Asian Pacific American Women’s forum also released statements about Dobbs.

“Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women continue to feel the reverberations of the overturning of Roe,” said Isra Pananon Weeks, NAPAWF’s Interim Executive Director and Chief of Staff. “The Supreme Court’s unprecedented and callous decision, along with state bans and restrictions that have followed, continues to jeopardize the health, safety, and economic stability of people of color, including AAPI women.”
