The 2023 Anime Expo is underway in Los Angeles, California. This year’s expo is being held at the Los Angeles Convention Center from Saturday, July 1 through Tuesday, July 4.
According to KTLA, the expo was completed sold out on Sunday, with thousands of fans dressing up in costume to attend. They say the enjoy being in community with one another.
“I really like anime not only just because I am a graphic design major, but I do also really like the community that anime has brought,” one attendee told KTLA.
The expo is put on by a non-profit organization called Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation, 23ABC reports. It offers over 800 programs, panels and concerts.
The fourth of July marks the last day of the expo. According to its website it will have several panels and activities for the day, including a discussion of anime in the metaverse.
