A family of three has died in a suspected double murder-suicide in Towson, Maryland, CBS News reports.
On Friday, police found 37-year-old Prathiba Y. Amarnath, 37-year-old Yogesh H. Nagarajappa and 6-year-old Yash Honnal dead inside a home on the 1000 block of Kenilworth Drive after responding to a welfare check request.
According to PEOPLE Magazine, investigators believe Nagarajappa, the father and husband, was the shooter. The Baltimore County Police Department says its Chief Medical Examiner is currently investigating the causes and manner of death.
The family had last been seen on August 15, three days before they were found dead on August 18.
“I am heartbroken and deeply saddened for the innocent victims whose lives were cut short by this horrific act,” Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olzewski said, according to CBS News.
A GoFundMe page was started by Prathiba’s cousin Soma Sekhar to repatriate their remains to India. It has raised over $53,000 so far but is not currently accepting any donations.
On August 22, Sekhar announced on the page that alternate plans for local cremation are currently being made. The family had been advised that the bodies of their loved ones were “beyond the stage of getting embalmed and dressed for the flight to India.”
“Your generous donations are being used for the funeral services and to support the families to reach the US to offer their last prayers to their loved ones. Please be assured that any leftover funds will be used responsibly further to support similar causes through Sharavathi Kannada Balaga Corporation,” the page states.
