A suspect has been arrested for a Sept. 14 attack on an elderly employee at a shop in Los Angeles’s, Calif., Chinatown, ABC7 reports.
Surveillance footage of the assault circulated online shows the man, identified as 31-year-old Thornton Courtland, stealing merchandise from Angies Boutique as 60-year-old Van Huynh tries to stop him. He hits her multiple times, fracturing her cheekbone and tearing her eyelid, according to a GoFundMe for her hospital bills.
“[Van Huynh is] a staple in the community and beloved by everyone in the area,” the GoFundMe reads. “She works hard everyday to provide for her family. She goes out of her way to help everyone around her.”
Courtland is currently being held on $80,000 bail, and the Los Angeles Police Department is also investigating him in relation to other robberies, according to ABC7.
