Actor Charles Melton honored his Korean American mother during his acceptance speech for Breakthrough Performance at the Critics Choice Celebration of Black, Latino & AAPI Achievements, Deadline reports.
Melton, 32, received the award for his work in May December. He brought his mother to the celebration, calling her his “hero” in his speech.
“I stand today in front of my mother. I’m proud of my Korean American heritage. Umma, umma,” Melton said tearfully in Korean, according to NBC News. “You are my hero.”
Melton also posted pictures of him and his mother at the Critics Choice Celebration.
“Thank you to the Critics Choice Association for the recognition and to Steven Yeun for making my umma’s dreams come true,” he captioned the post, which featured a photo of his mother and Yeun.
