Vandalism at a restaurant in Madison investigated as hate crime

Police in Madison, Wisconsin, are investigating the vandalism at a Mediterranean restaurant as a possible Islamophobic hate crime.

According to Channel 3000, the vandalism occurred on Tuesday, after 1:30 a.m. at Dubai Mediterranean Restaurant in the 400 block of State Street. Police say the suspect(s) caused significant damage and spray painted Islamophobic graffiti on the walls.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has called on federal law enforcement authorities to investigate the vandalism.

“We urge federal law enforcement authorities to add their resources to those of local investigators so that the perpetrators of this alleged hate crime may be brought to justice,” CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said in a press release
