Seattle’s Chinatown-International District (CID) will bring back its annual Night Market after receiving a $250,000 donation, KOMO News reports.
The Night Market was paused in 2023 due to a lack of sponsorships and rising costs. The donation, made by Amazon, will revive the market through 2026.
“It’s an economic driver for our small businesses,” Monisha Singh, the Executive Director of the Chinatown International District Business Improvement Area, said in an interview with KING 5. “It’s a marketing opportunity for our businesses to highlight their particular business, it’s an opportunity to showcase the neighborhood as a whole.”
Amazon said it wanted to “do the right thing” and help save the Night Market.
“We’re proud that our contribution will help strengthen the CID community,” Taylor Hoang, Amazon’s senior community engagement manager for Seattle, said in a statement per The Seattle Times. “And ensure that visitors can enjoy the arts, food and culture the Market brings each fall.”
There is no set date for the next Night Market, but organizers hope it will return sometime in September 2024.
